Sayulita

is located off the Pacific Highway Mex 200 about 40 minutes north of the famous resort of Puerto Vallarta. Although some US and Canadian citizens have choosen Sayulita as their winter resort the town has kept its character as a small and typical Mexican village. Its a different world compared to Puerto Vallarta with the huge resorts, discos and attractions 'attacking' the tourists like parasailing. Sayulita offers many activities: They range from hiking through the jungle paths or gravel roads through surfing, swimming and kayaking to horseback riding, bicycling and fishing.

JewelryYou still find scenes like the one on the left. Sometimes Indians from the mountains around try to sell their artwork. Off the main holidays Eastern and Christmas you'll see the usual life of a Mexican town with all the small grocery shops and craftsmen in every street. Well, "streets": If you like this way of life, you'll be pleased to notice that just the main access road has been paved ...But this improves slowly each year. By the way: There are some banking machines  (automatic tellers) in town!

The village is embedded in a very lovely lush tropical scenery offering short walks to a lot of very remote and hidden beaches around Sayulita. Coconut, other trees of all kinds, Banana, Mango, Papaya and citrus fruits are common. I don't have to mention that in this area of Mexico you'll see flowers in all colors all year round. Nature at it's best: You find it in Sayulita!

This beach ("Playa Malpasos") is located just north of Sayulita on the path to San Francisco, called 'San Pancho' by the locals. Most of the time you will be surprised to see that you are the only visitor at this place. Some of the smaller beaches are hard to get to. You have to climb rocks or could take a boat. But be sure that it is always worth it because you will discover spectacular views wherever you go.

By the way: San Pancho has a small hospital, just in case... Sayulita itself offers everything required for your daily life. There are dozens of small stores waiting for you. For a few years there also are some small stores selling souvenirs. If you have to do some major shopping, just go to one of the Purto Vallarta supermarkets and specialty shops.

Several restaurants owned by locals offer excellent food. A 'must' is El Costeno right on the beach where you can have your dinner with your feet in the sand. Fish and shrimps are really fresh. They are the catch of the day. Another highlight is "El Terrazola" right on the beach on the Trailer Parks property!
Don't hesitate to try one of the Taco stands on the street. Their food is excellent, their drinks, too, and they are clean. Our top-favorite, however,  is Cheo, next to the bridge with many years of tradition and the best Tacos of the world!

There are also some restaurants owned by foreigners. If you can not resist, you should expect higher prices but not necessarily better food. But it's worth a try!

Enjoy the sunsets! They always present the beach in constantly changing colors and offer a beautiful view from different perspectives.
